Ensure to dress the part, eat well and take good supplements…

Summer is just short! But regardless of its short stay, the season is vibey and because of its sunshine people are spending their days outing, dining, and on vacation. Now that the cold has landed, finding a good balance between food, vitamins and dressing the part is imperative. The cold weather has once again done its famous things. What I love during this time is the sense of humor and memes curated because of winter and its blues, our country Mzansi always has time to laugh at any given time. It’s a country that turns lemon into lemonades and you cannot just ignore it. My favorite meme of all times is the one around people refusing to take a bath because the bathtub is too cold or rather taking a shower because they claim that water takes longer to be hot…it’s just hilarious! The memes are paired with food menus such as magwinya-fat cakes. Apart from nourishing body and mind, food is used as a token for many reasons such as to feel good, events, and gatherings. In essence, people cannot leave without food.

Now that food cravings have returned in full swing as the cold weather accelerates the chills, I can tell you that food topics are an everyday talk. People start to cook even before they arrive at their places… I had a colleague who used to go around, asking for tips for delicious food recipes without fail, before knockoff times. She would go like “what are you cooking tonight?” … eventually starting an afternoon home-cooked meal drive. We will all then start the chats about yummy food ideas, google for recipes, and by the time we drive home, we would have already eaten the meals (a surmise). Most of the food recipes were cheesy, greasy, or just starchy! The cold weather seems to enhance food cravings hence people seek some sort of a comforting, hearty, and even fatty meal during this time.

Coming to the end of the season we would have put on more weight, I got worried and decided to research the alternative comforting food. To my surprise, I discovered that actually, the winter cravings can be satisfied with any hot meal. There is no need to add unhealthy ingredients just because we want to feel the comfort in mouth-watering meals. There are options and different methods of approach to use such as choosing a farm-acy instead of a pharmacy. A farm-acy way is to eat food from the garden such as chilies and garlic by adding them to your meals more often. This can improve your satiety levels and boost the levels of the immune system since garlic is known to reduce inflammation and helps absorbs the traces of zinc. Making delicious soups adding broccoli, peas, and cabbage to your soup can lower your calorie intake but is nutrient-rich. Brewing and drinking more spicy and herbal tea can also regulate and balance sugar levels in your body and promotes satiety levels by boosting your Lipton hormone hence you forget about hunger and hot drinks do as they promise, keeping you warm. When it comes to pharmacy way, it’s simply the usage of manufactured immune system supplements. Ensure to always have vitamins such as zinc and vitamin C to ward off viruses, repair tissues, and enhance the natural healing process when needed, especially during winter. Immune boosting vitamins can either be an OTC or prescribed, this will depend on individual health.

Vitamin C. is commonly used to aid absorption of vital minerals such as Iron

Vitamin D. A lack of vitamin D can cause bone pain, note that more bone-related pains are felt during dropped temperatures such as night times, early mornings, and during winter. Getting enough vitamin D can assist with calcium absorption.

Iron. Supports the immune system ad helps move oxygen around the body.

Folic acid. Prevents and treats low blood levels

Zinc. Can assist problematic skin conditions during dry and cold seasons. Supports blood sugar levels and reduces the duration of cold symptoms.
